Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)

Answer engines quote pages that answer a question plainly, near the top, in language a machine can lift without distorting it. AEO is the discipline of writing and structuring those answers.

Who this is for

Businesses whose buyers ask a lot of questions before hiring: cost drivers, timelines, whether a repair is worth it, what happens on the first visit, which areas are covered.

If you answer the same five questions on the phone every day, those answers belong on your site in a form both people and machines can use.

What the work covers

  • A question inventory built from your calls, your inbox, and search data — not invented topics
  • Answer-first writing: a short direct answer, then the qualifying detail underneath
  • Question-shaped headings that match how people actually phrase things
  • FAQ blocks that are visible on the page, with FAQPage structured data only where the visible content matches
  • Consistent, checkable business facts so an assistant that quotes you is quoting the same numbers everywhere
  • Clear scope statements — what you do, what you do not do, and where

How the work runs

Collect real questions

We start from your own intake: what callers ask, what confuses them, what they get wrong about your service. Search data supplements this; it does not replace it.

Write the answer, then the nuance

Each answer opens with two or three sentences that stand alone if quoted out of context, followed by the conditions that matter. Hedged, meandering copy is unusable to an answer engine and to a hurried reader.

Structure and verify

Structured data is added only where it describes content a visitor can see. Search Console and manual checks confirm the pages are crawlable and rendered.

What AEO cannot promise

Rich results, featured snippets, and assistant citations are chosen by the platform and change without notice. Google has retired FAQ rich results for most sites; valid FAQ markup still helps machines parse the page, but it is not a ticket to a rich result.

AEO improves the odds that a correct answer exists and is easy to extract. It cannot guarantee that any engine will show it.

Questions about this page

Is AEO just adding an FAQ section?
No. An FAQ block is one output. The substance is choosing the right questions, answering them accurately in the first two sentences, and keeping the facts consistent across the site.
Will this get my business into AI answers?
It can make your content easier for an engine to use, and that is the honest limit of the claim. Nobody can guarantee inclusion in an AI answer, and any provider who does is overselling.
Does AEO replace regular SEO?
No. A page still has to be crawlable, fast, and relevant. AEO sits on top of local SEO, not instead of it.
